Goals for the season

Well, heres my goals that I've been late to getting to.

-I want make varsity, although if I do my best and there is somebody better than me, I'll be happy with that, because I want what is best for the team. I think this is a good situation we have because I think the guys that are fighting for the last few spots will push each other. If I don't make varsity I'll make it my goal to get first at the jv district meet.

-I want to stay focused on my goals the whole season. Last season I just started looking forward to the season ending towards the end.

-For times, my first goal is running 6 minute pace for a whole race, which I think is about 18:45. I'd like to work that down to low 18 range. I'll say 18:00. I think I can do that if I work hard this season, each practice.

-I want to bond more with the other guys, to really become a good team. I should make sure that I support the other guys as much as I can.

-I want to help the team to a district championship.

-I want to help the team to a state championship.

-I need to get more sleep this year, about 9 hours a night. I should try to be in bed before ten. That'll be one of my bigger challenges.

-I want to maintain stretching well and doing pup's and sup's throughout the whole season, because it seems like we've always stopped doing that midseason.

-I need to work on staying focused and being tough throughout a race.

-I'd like to work on knowing what my pace is better, because I'm not very good at it.

-I want to make sure I get all of my homework done and maintain a 4.0 gpa, or at least do as well as I can and learn some things

-have some fun(!), as this is quite a rare oppurtunity in my life

-survive

-kick Marist's and North Bend's and Phoenix's and everybody elses butt all season and at state!!

8-31 the time trial

Well, ran five kilometers in 20:22 on the ol' rhody run course. It was a little dissapointing because I felt like I could've ran faster before hand and also I was a ways behind the other guys. It still wasn't too bad. It's good for early in the season. I was hoping to be closer to 19:20. I maybe could've gone harder. It's good to get a feel for a 5k, though.

goals for time trial

I've been kind of unsure how well I will to today. I'm not sure how fast I'll be able to do, since it's early in the season, although I feel like I'm in relatively good shape and I feel faster than last year. So my goal is to run around 19:20, which would be a pr. I should go out in about 6:05- 6:10 for the first mile. That's my goal. I hope that I can find a good rhythm for the rest of the race, to keep the initial pace.

8-30 Afternoon Delight: at Wahink

We ran the 5k course at Woahink, and it felt pretty good. I ran 22:09, which was a little bit slower than 7 minute pace, I think. It felt pretty good though, I was going steady, not pushing it. My legs felt a little tired, so it should be good to have the morning off tomorrow. My right foot was bothering me slightly. I'm not sure if it could be related to anything bad, so I was trying to be careful. It kind of reminded me of the injury I had my freshman year, maybe, although this doesn't seem like it'll be anything bad. It's just like a feeling of pain on the outside in the middle of my foot. It was just a tiny thing, though. This run felt pretty good. It's nice to know that I can run fairly easy 1 and a half minutes faster than I could in the time trial as a freshman.

8-30 Dawning is the Day

Well, this run was pretty simple and nice. It was slow, so it felt good. It was about 25 mintues. It was a recovery run. It was good to be on soft surfaces. I couldn't notice any major soreness from the hills.

8-29 afternoons and coffespoons: sand dunes of doom

well, this afternoon was somewhat tough, especially on the sand dunes. I could not keep up with the rest of the guys, no matter how hard I tried. It felt like I was churning butter. It felt like I could barely get any power at all. After that it was fine, although that got my quads pretty tired. It took 29:26, and I'm not sure how long it was. Around four miles. It was tough but it still felt okay.

8-29 Early Morning Riser: the Hill of Kingwood

This morning we ran hills, on Kingwood. I ran 6 of them, and I was feeling pretty good until the last one. I started to die on that one. I think I probably could have done one more. It felt good. It actually didn't feel that hard. It almost was easier than Monday Morning. I think I am better at these type of work outs, were you stop and go at a faster pace. I think I remember my splits. The first one was 72, the second was 66, third was 66, fourth was 64, fifth was 62, and sixth was 67. I'm not sure how that compares to previous years. I'd think it'd be better, though.

8-28 the Afternoon: Forever AFternoon the ballad of el goodo

We ran a Tommy Balcolm, 5 miles, in about 33:55. It felt quite good. I don't know why, but I have felt really good both times that we have ran this run this year. I was cruising. I fell behind a little at the end, but it felt good. Overall, it was good.

8-28 The morning: another morning

Yes this morning, we ran to the post and back. On the way there I ran14:17, on the way back, about 14:20, so about 28:37 total. About 4 miles, I think. I felt pretty good until we got back onto the road that leads back to the gravel. That's were I started loosing the other guys. My quads were getting pretty tired. They had the feeling were I felt like I couldn't get much strength from them no matter how hard I pushed. It may have been riding in the car most of the day on Sunday. I tried to consistently keep pushing after I fell back. It was a medium run. I think i'll feel better later in the week. I had this feeling last Tuesday in the morning also, although that was worse.
